The Cantiere Internazionale d’Arte has always been intended as an inclusive and collective event, the diametric opposite of any form of veneration: international, multidisciplinary, devoted to the cultural growth of young people and the enhancement of contemporary creativity. Forty-seven years later, edition after edition, the Cantiere reconfirms adherence to the utopian dream of its founder, the German composer and intellectual Hans Werner Henze, who aimed to transform one of Tuscany’s most enchanting and authentic villages into a forge of socially useful beauty, through the supranational language of music. The daily work of the Cantiere, from the young people of the town to the many illustrious international guests, culminates each year in this very special art event: democratic and horizontal, a celebration of all, over a fortnight that truly transfigures the Renaissance stones of Montepulciano into dream, sound and future.
